It was on 15th of July 2008 that a decision was taken, during a meeting of members of "ShaAre Shalom" non-profit organisation of Jews from India residing in Eilat, to set up a synagogue. The other major goals being:

· Managing funds for philanthropic activities - "Gmilut Khasidim"
· Talmud Torah studies
· Collecting donations for charity and helping the needy
· Organising educational and cultural activites related to customs of Jews from India
· Setting up scholarships for students and young people
· Assisting aliyah and absorption of Jews from India in Eilat

The request was made to the Mayor of Eilat Mr. Meyer Yitshak HaLevi, who immediately arranged a meeting with the Deputy Mayor Yehuda Moradi, engineers and other concerned officials from his office. The tour was arranged to visit the ideal sites for the synagogue and the deal was finally made based on several aspects.

On 6th October 2008, keys to the site of the proposed synagogue was received. The Air-Raid shelter no. 12-B on Gishron Street in Dekel neighbourhood currently serves as the synagogue. It is fairly large and spacious with two big rooms. The location was selected keeping in mind the large concentration of Indian Jews in the locality.

The synagogue was inaugurated on 19th February 2009 (25 Shvat 5769) with great pomp and show. The function was attended by the Rabbi of Eilat, Rabbis of Indian Jewish community and the congregation in a large number.

The Indian Jewish community of Eilat is greatful to the city Mayor Meir Yitzhak HaLevi and deputy Mayor Yehuda Moradi. Thanks to the co-operation and strong faith of the local Indian Jewish community. The last but not the least the major credit to set-up this synagogue goes to David Nir who devoted his valuable time and energy to make the dream of Eilatians come true.
